Who's the Expert?
In this short game, students consider trios of purported experts. In each case, however, only one is the genuine expert. Can the students guess who, based on the information provided? This activity highlights the role of scientific credentials vs. other forms of leadership or trust, the role of relevant expertise, and the role of consensus in science. The game format provides a flexible general model, which individual teachers may adapt beyond the topic of climate change, the focus here.

This quick activity may function as a "warm-up" to the fuller "Inquiry into Expertise."
